A year of change, a year of progressBy Stuart Dickinson on
The one constant is change. It’s an apt truism for what has been an extremely busy 12-months for Oxygen, a DXC Technologies Company. Looking back, I am pleased at how much we have achieved.
There are too many events to mention them all, but highlights include joining the global CSC family, helping SAP launch the SAP Hybris Citizen Engagement Accelerator and, of course, another year of successful customer engagements. Winning a ‘Best Supplier’ award for our work upgrade and re-platforming Tomago Aluminium’s SAP environment on a cloud-based infrastructure was particularly satisfying.
In my opinion, the project is a good example of how accepted the cloud has become in 2016. Where previously companies often only put their development and test environments into the cloud, this year we have seen them embrace it for their ‘live’ deployments as well. Concerns around security have noticeably diminished, as organisations seek out the improved cost of ownership, reduced business risk and future-proofed platform advantages attainable using a cloud-based infrastructure and solutions.
When I announced in late 2015 that UXC was merging with CSC I said it was a milestone moment for Oxygen, a DXC Technologies Company. The merger has opened a new chapter in our development and provided us with new opportunities, the most significant being our ability to leverage CSC’s global scale and experience to invest in new industry sectors. Real examples are already appearing with the merger giving us routes into new industries, such as banking and financial services and also improved geographical reach, thanks to CSC’s strong presence in Canberra and Perth.
Dealing with technology change can be both an opportunity and a burden for customers. New technology can reveal previously unforeseen business potential, but keeping up with the pace of change can be confusing – and costly, if the wrong approach is adopted. This year we have concentrated on two key themes to help customers navigate the ITC landscape and steer them towards what we believe offers the best business rewards.
Transformation of the business core using SAP S/4HANA and migrating customers to more flexible environments, such as cloud provisioning using Amazon Web Services, has been a central focus. To participate in the emerging digital economy organisations need to ensure that their engine room – their core ERP environment – is up-to-date and ready to capitalise on the plethora of new apps and mobile solutions that business users are now demanding to help them execute their everyday business tasks.
That brings me to our second focus – helping organisations get closer to their customers. We have continued to invest heavily in building out our digital capabilities with a focus on the SAP Hybris solutions (Customer, Marketing, Commerce and Billing). We are the most experienced SAP solutions integrator in Australia and New Zealand when it comes to SAP Hybris solutions and during 2016 we helped a range of organisations integrate back and front office processes in order to accelerate customer engagement and realise the potential of the digital economy.
I would like to thank all our customers for working with us so constructively during the year. Our success is only possible thanks to good working relationships, an approach that delivers quality outcomes and also helps us to cope with unexpected challenges, and a team committed to the success of our clients. Our Wellington office is working from temporary premises currently, while its building undergoes earthquake damage checks. I would like to thank our staff and customers for their patience while this takes place.
On second thoughts, perhaps a better summary for the year would be: the one constant is progress. The actions we have taken this year position us extremely well to not only continue providing the strategic and tactical assistance our customers have come to expect, but to expand our breadth and depth of service offerings into exciting new business areas. Have a safe and relaxing holiday season.
