Why SAP S/4HANA is the future for our customers

By Paul Kruger, General Manager Sales & Marketing on

There’s no doubt about it – S/4HANA is the future for SAP customers.

SAP S/4HANA is a real-time enterprise resource management suite for digital business that is built on the advanced in-memory platform, SAP HANA, and can be deployed in the cloud or on premise.

This will underpin all new SAP systems, but there are some good reasons why organisations with ageing systems should also think about taking the leap.

At Oxygen, a DXC Technology Company, we have been quick to embrace the new world order, and for the last few years have been adopting the new technology, upskilling our consultants and conducting implementations with customers.

Why should you deploy SAP S/4HANA?

Our SAP S/4HANA solution is proving attractive to our customers because it sets the foundation for their enterprise systems for many years to come.It is creating a platform that they will be able to build from in the future.

It’s also a way to get onto the latest technology and solution versions without having to undertake major upgrades or enhancements to old ECC or even R/3 versions of SAP.

Not surprisingly, given the fanfare from SAP, customers are wary of the effort required to shift onto a relatively new platform. Even if they understand the ‘why’, the ‘how’ can still seem insurmountable.

How to explore what SAP S/4HANA could do for your business

Oxygen are tackling this uncertainty with our SAP S/4HANA Innovation and Readiness Assessment Service.

As the name suggests, it is a packaged solution for customers who are seeking to assess the current state of play with their existing on-premise SAP solution, and how they might convert to S/4HANA in the most effective way.

Taking only four weeks to complete, the service gives an outline of the benefits of moving to SAP S/4HANA, as well as an overall roadmap to achieve these benefits, including the effort required.

This includes:

  • A custom code assessment, including a recommendation for each custom code element in an S/4HANA environment
  • Suggested business processes to be adopted
  • A determination of the optimal technical and functional steps to move to S/4HANA
  • Proposed deployment timeframe and pricing for the conversion to S/4HANA.

Building a SAP S/4HANA business case

We help the customer build their business case by measuring the existing system, defining a migration path going forward, and explaining the business value.

At one of our recent S/4HANA successes at Tomago Aluminium, we moved the customer from a very old on-premise ECC version to a hosted S/4HANA environment.

The solution is managed by Oxygen on the Amazon Web Services platform and Oxygen recently received the '2016 Outstanding Performance in SAP Partner Managed Cloud Award', for the implementation, but more importantly, Tomago have been thrilled with the results.

Cloud environment options

For customers who are considering a move to the cloud with S/4HANA, there are several options available; either choose the S/4HANA public cloud environment, or a hosted S/4HANA cloud solution, as Tomago Aluminium did. This blog post explains more.

A Partner Managed Cloud deployment offers the advantage of bundling all the various costs for the SAP system – the licensing, the infrastructure, ongoing support, as well as the implementation – into a monthly subscription service that offers access to the latest and greatest technology without the upfront capital expenditure.

SAP S/4HANA is a very stable and reliable product, having proven itself at many customer sites around the world. For those considering S/4HANA public cloud, it is now easy to see exactly what functionality SAP is planning to add down the line.

For the first time ever, SAP has published a four-quarter roadmap for the S/4HANA public cloud solution, so customers have full visibility of what’s coming down the track in terms of functionality.
