SAP Lumira 2.0 release will bring big data discovery within everyday reach of enterprise organisationsBy Stuart Chambers, Practice Manager, SAP Analytics and Data on
One of the advantages of being a gold SAP channel partner is we often get our hands on new SAP technologies before they are released to the general market. Over the last few months we have been lucky enough to test drive a ramp-up version of SAP Lumira 2.0.
SAP Lumira 2.0’s new features
After a decade working in the SAP Analytics space, it’s exciting to see the leap forward SAP has made this year. SAP Lumira 2.0’s new features will lift analytics storytelling to whole new levels. But even more significantly, thanks to its capability to bring together both internal and external data sets, it will create a paradigm shift in customers’ approach to data analysis.
Intuitive data exploration
The Oxygen Analytics and Data practice is focused on helping customers move the lens from backward-looking reporting, towards forward-looking analytics that assess every step in a business process, make predictions on each process step and facilitate intuitive data exploration by users. Ensuring high levels of user adoption is also a priority.
SAP has made a range of improvements with Lumira 2.0 that are likely to have a big impact on user adoption of SAP analytic solutions. It has sensibly consolidated Lumira and Design Studio into one product on a common technology stack. It has also significantly enhanced the user experience design and improved its data provisioning technology.
SAP analytics, a catalyst for innovation
As part of putting SAP Lumira 2.0 through its paces we have been investigating its ability to integrate data from the Internet of Things (IoT), namely machine sensor data. This is an important learning experiment that we hope will unlock untapped process improvements for our customers, whilst also showing how SAP analytics solutions can be a catalyst for innovation.
We want customers to imagine new ways SAP Lumira 2.0 could be applied to their business to support a modern analytic environment. A powerful data, exploration and sharing tool can help customers create actionable insights across a range of different use cases. For example, it could help organisations provide much more tailored experiences for their customers, run smarter maintenance processes, or better understand their own procurement spending patterns.
Knowing why things happened and learning from it – by analysing past processes – provides business with valuable insights. But knowing what is likely to occur, based on current conditions, external data points and future trends, gives organisations a decisive competitive edge.
Making fast, objective & data-driven decisions
One of the areas we will be focusing with Lumira 2.0 is its ability to join high value SAP data with large ungoverned data sets to unlock actionable insights. The ability to feed in external information, such as meteorological information or ‘live’ market data, could have a profound impact for many organisations.
Mashing up internal and external data, rapidly creating visualisations and building simple storyboards to communicate that information to key business stakeholders gives organisations the ability to capitalise on opportunities or minimise risks – in essence to take action based on making fast, objective, data-driven decisions.
Looking even further ahead, Oxygen is looking at ways to connect SAP Lumira 2.0 with some powerful tools, such as Zoomdata, that allow high value SAP data to be joined with mega data sets.
Imagine being able to analyse multi-billion record data sets in a matter of minutes (if not seconds), without the need for huge on-premise computing power, and then using SAP Lumira 2.0 to visualise and share the results across the organisation?
It is a mouth-watering prospect which in the past has often been too complicated and costly to contemplate. These exciting developments are no longer on the distant horizon.
